THE TEMPLE OF TRANSFORMATION
In a world that so often asks us to be strong, there must also be places where we are allowed to be tender.
Places to grieve. To remember. To forgive. To surrender. To find one another again.
Rising from the ancient earth of the Karoo, the Temple of Transformation is a monumental eagle, its wings outstretched in a vast embrace of protection and love.
Within its wings, hundreds of human stories will be held. Stories of loss and becoming. Of courage, healing and renewal. Stories that remind us that even in our most broken moments, something beautiful can emerge.
Built by many hands, carried by many hearts, the Temple is an invitation to remember what connects us.
We are not alone in our becoming.
Somewhere in the world, someone needs to hear your story
We all carry stories that have changed us.
A moment that broke us open. A loss that taught us how to love. A challenge we thought we could never overcome. A quiet awakening that changed the course of our lives.
Some transformations arrive like lightning. Others unfold so gently that we only recognise them when we look back.
Whatever your journey, your story matters.
We are gathering 360 stories of transformation from people around the world. Each will become part of a feather on the wings of the Temple, its words forming the delicate lines and textures of the eagle's plumage.
Together, these stories will become a living tapestry of human experience, carried into the desert and shared with the world.
Your words may be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

We invite you to sponsor a feather and share a personal story of transformation, between 250 and 600 words.
Your story will be inscribed onto a wooden feather, shared through our online collection and preserved in the story archive for a future photographic book.
You may inscribe your feather yourself, have it inscribed on your behalf, or join one of our feather-cutting gatherings in Johannesburg, Cape Town or the Garden Route.
Large feather — 2.4 m long
Sliding scale R500- R1,000 / US $30-$60
Medium feather — 1.8 m long

Your contribution helps cover materials, transport to the Karoo and part of the book's production costs.
Smaller feathers will carry stories created through community transformation workshops across South Africa.
One feather. One story. One extraordinary collective.

At the centre of it all, a beating heart of collective love.
Deep within the embrace of the eagle's wings lies a quiet sanctuary. A sacred space to pause, to breathe, to remember, and simply to be.
Suspended within this chamber will be a heart, lovingly woven from copper wire, holding a clear quartz crystal at its centre.
Copper, a conductor of energy, connects the heart symbolically to the earth beneath us. Quartz, long revered in spiritual traditions for its associations with clarity and amplification, rests at its centre.
Together, they become a symbol of the invisible threads that connect us all.
But the true energy of this heart will come from people.

Across the world, we are inviting individuals and communities to contribute moments of loving intention, meditation, prayer and compassion. Each offering, however small, becomes part of something greater — a collective expression of our shared humanity.
You do not need to be spiritual. You do not need to know how to meditate. You need only bring your presence, your compassion and your willingness to hold a little love for the world.
Throughout the journey of creating the Temple, and during its time in the desert, we will hold a continuous invitation for people to connect with its heart.
Imagine thousands of people, across continents and time zones, pausing for a few moments to hold the same intention.
For healing. For forgiveness. For those who are grieving. For those who have lost hope. For a world that so desperately needs tenderness.
A quiet act of love, multiplied across the earth.
One heart. Thousands of intentions. A world connected through love.

What we create together can reach far beyond what we can see.
The Temple of Transformation may rise from the ancient earth of the Karoo, but its roots reach far beyond the desert.
Its true beauty lies not only in the structure we build, but in the lives we touch along the way.
Every story shared, every feather created, every hand that helps build, carries the possibility of a ripple. A small act of love or courage that travels outward, touching lives we may never know.
Because transformation is not something we experience alone. It is something we awaken in one another.
Across South Africa, we will be bringing the spirit of the Temple into communities through a series of transformational workshops.
Through movement, creativity, meditation, storytelling and human connection, we will create spaces where people can feel seen, heard and valued.
Participants will be invited to explore their own journeys of healing, resilience and hope, inscribing their stories onto smaller feathers that will become part of the eagle's wings.
Their words will travel to the desert alongside stories from across the world.
Different lives. Different journeys. One shared humanity.
A LEGACY OF HOPE
There is a beautiful thread connecting this Temple to the one we built eleven years ago.
Following the Temple of Metamorphosis in 2015, our team helped transform the home of an organisation that has since become deeply woven into my life: Home of Hope.
Home of Hope provides refuge, care and opportunities for girls and young women who have survived sex trafficking, exploitation, abuse and profound hardship.
For eleven years, I have remained connected to these remarkable young women, sharing retreats, movement, healing and moments of joy as they find their way toward brighter futures.
The Temple of Transformation is another chapter in that story.
The 360 stories carried on the eagle's wings will be preserved on this website and ultimately gathered into a beautiful photographic coffee-table book.
Our intention is that the profits from the book will support Home of Hope, helping sustain the care, education and opportunities these young women deserve.
From one Temple to another. From one act of love to the next.

The Temple will be built through the generosity, dedication and extraordinary spirit of volunteers.
As part of this journey, we will invite four individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend AfrikaBurn to become part of our building team.
They will have the opportunity to learn practical skills, work alongside experienced makers, discover their own creative potential and experience the profound sense of belonging that comes from building something together.
At the end of the project, they will take home tools and materials to support their own creative journeys.
Our hope is that they leave not only with new skills, but with a deeper belief in what is possible for their own lives.
WHEN THE TEMPLE IS GONE
Like all burn temples, this structure is not intended to remain.
It will stand for a brief moment in time, holding our grief, our prayers, our memories and our hopes.
And then it will be released.
But the stories will remain.
The skills will remain.
The friendships, the healing, the courage and the connections will remain.
Somewhere, someone will read a story that gives them hope. Someone will discover a gift they didn't know they possessed. Someone will feel less alone.
And perhaps that person will go on to change another life.
That is the transformation we hope to create.
Not only in the desert, but in the world beyond it.
